Sign-in error messages and what they mean

Find the exact message you see, then the fix.

Updated October 2, 2026

Each heading below is the exact message Hovis shows. Find yours.

"That code is wrong."

Check the 6 digits and type them again. If you asked for more than one code, only the newest one works.

"That code expired - request a new one."

Codes work for 10 minutes. Ask for a new code and use it right away. You may also see "Those codes expired - request new ones." The fix is the same.

"Too many tries - start again."

After 5 wrong tries, that code stops working. Ask for a new code. You may also see "No pending verification - start again." Ask for a new code for that one too.

"Too many tries - wait a minute."

Too many codes were asked for or checked in one minute. Wait one minute, then try once. See "Slow down a moment" or "Too many tries".

"Could not send the code - try again."

We could not send your code. Wait a moment and try again. You may also see "Login is temporarily unavailable - try again shortly." If it keeps happening, email us.

"Google sign-in is unavailable right now - use your emailed code."

Google sign-in is down for the moment. Enter your email and use the code we send. You may also see "Google sign-in is not switched on yet - use your emailed code."

"This device looks duplicated - sign in with your code instead."

Your Face ID or fingerprint sign-in could not be trusted on this device. Sign in with an emailed code. You can add Face ID or fingerprint again in Settings.

"Your device signed in without checking it was you..."

Your phone did not ask for your face, fingerprint or PIN. Try again and use Face ID, fingerprint or your PIN, or sign in with an emailed code.

"Network hiccup - try again."

Your connection dropped for a moment. Check your signal or Wi-Fi and try again.
